This course is designed to strengthen students' reading and language skills. In this course, students will have the opportunity to increase their vocabularies; strengthen their understanding of grammar and English language mechanics; learn sentence and paragraph structures; and use comprehension skills to review and analyze story content.
This course uses a literature approach in that language skills are built as students read a total of three novels. All desired outcomes are repetitively modeled for the students. Students are encouraged, through the use of point incentives, to actively participate in class activities.
Students can earn up to a total of 10 elective English credits per semester. The number of credits earned is based upon points accumulated as a result of attendance, participation, and lesson completion. No tests are given and letter grades are not given for lessons. The final course grade is determined by the number of credits earned.
